MDDA GRANT CALL FOR FUNDING: COMMUNITY MEDIA BROADCASTERS AND PUBLISHERS – DEADLINE 1 AUGUST

Johannesburg – 30 July 2025: The Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA)
will on Friday, 01 August 2025, close its call for applications for the 2025/2026 Grant Funding cycle.
The Call for Grant Funding Applications was open for a four-week period from 04 July to 01 August 2025, inviting submissions from community media projects, including radio, TV
and print publications, as well as small commercial print media.Applications were accepted and can still be submitted through the MDDA's online portal, via email, or through hard copy submissions.
Eligibility requirements include for community broadcast projects:
- A valid ICASA community broadcast license, and
- Registration as a Section 21 company (non-profit), Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), or Community-Based Organisation (CBO)
For Small commercial print and digital media:
- Registration as a sole proprietorship, close corporation, or private company.
Chief Executive Officer of the MDDA, Ms. Shoeshoe Qhu, says, “We urge applicants who
still wish to be considered for this grant cycle to ensure that they submit their completed
applications before the deadline.”

To support applicants, the MDDA held nationwide roadshows and hybrid workshops in June and July offering training on leadership, ethics, media management, and governance—essential skills for the sustainability and impact of community media
operations.
As the deadline approaches, applicants must ensure:
- They are submitting complete and accurate information;
- NPOs have demonstrably stable governance structures;
- All required documentation is included;
- Their applications fall within the MDDA’s funding scope.
The final deadline for submission is 11:59 PM on 01 August 2025.
