MINISTER IN THE PRESIDENCY TO UNVEIL CC FM STUDIOS IN CAPE TOWN

31 January 2024

  • Minister in the Presidency, Ms Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, (MP), together with Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Nomasonto Motaung, (MP), and MDDA Board Chairperson Prof. Hlengani Mathebula will on Tuesday 06 February 2024 lead the official unveiling of brand-new state of the art studios at CC FM 107.5 FM, a contemporary Christian community radio station situated in Muizenberg, Cape Town, in the Western Cape.

The unveiling forms part of the MDDA’s ongoing work to support the development and diversity of community and small commercial media. Community media forms a vital part of any society, as it ensures that communities are represented and reflected as part of a diverse nation. It engages people from different cultures and backgrounds, and through the use of indigenous languages advances dialogue and promotes participatory democracy.

The station prides itself of not only being the source of news and information for the people of Cape Town and surrounding areas, but a committed community radio platform for life-changing messages of hope. CC FM was established in 1993 as Radio Fish Hoek, and eventually evolved into the radio station it is today, an inclusive voice that connects diverse communities within the Western Cape province. The languages of broadcast are 80% English, 10% Afrikaans and 10% isiXhosa.

CC FM is part of 20-community radio station that were approved for funding by the MDDA during the 2022/23 financial year grant funding cycle. It is the first time the station has been funded by the MDDA, as such joins other MDDA beneficiaries within the City of Cape Town such as Cape Town TV, Bush Radio, 7441 FM, RX Radio, West Coast FM, and Zibonele FM.

“We are excited to be providing the latest broadcast equipment to CC FM. As we head towards the elections it is important that our citizens have access to the widest range of news, information and voices to fully participate in our democratic processes,” said MDDA Chief Executive Officer, Ms Shoeshoe Qhu.
