President Ramaphosa appoints Philly Moilwa as MDDA Board Chairperson

The President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has appointed Mr Philly Moilwa as Chairperson of the
Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) Board for a five-year term, effective
from 9 July 2026.
Mr Moilwa joined the MDDA Board in April 2025 as a representative of the National
Association of Broadcasters (NAB) representing the broadcasting media sector. He brings
over two decades of leadership experience in broadcasting policy, regulation, governance
and strategy. He brings extensive leadership experience across South Africa's
broadcasting, media and communications sectors, having played a pivotal role in industry
governance, broadcasting policy development, regulatory reform and stakeholder
engagement. His deep understanding of the media landscape, combined with his
experience in the public and private broadcasting sectors, positions him well to lead the
MDDA Board in advancing media development and diversity in South Africa.
The President has also re-appointed Mr Colin Mashile as a Board member representing
the shareholder. Mr Collin Mashile is a seasoned public policy, communications and
regulatory expert with over 20 years' experience in broadcasting, digital policy, media
regulation, corporate governance and stakeholder management, currently serving as
Chief Director: Broadcasting Policy and ICT Policy Development and Research at the
Department of Communications and Digital Technologies.
Mr Moilwa and Mr Mashile were appointed by His Excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa,
in accordance with Section 4 of the MDDA Act, 2002, and officially took their oaths of
office on 16 July 2026.
These appointments bring the total membership of the MDDA Board to six members,
further strengthening the Agency's governance and oversight as it continues to advance
media development and diversity in South Africa.
