04 December 2023

  • On Tuesday 05 December 2023, Minister in the Presidency, Ms Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, (MP) accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Ms Nomasonto Motaung, (MP), and MDDA Board Chairperson Prof Hlengani Mathebula will unveil brand-new state-of-the-art broadcast studios at Mmabatho Fm 107.7 as well as Mahikeng FM 96.7, under the Ngaka Modiri District Municipality in the North-West province.

The unveiling of the broadcast studios forms part of the MDDA’s ongoing work to promote the growth and sustainability of community and small commercial media across the country.

Since inception, the MDDA has supported over 586 community and small commercial media projects. This includes 321 community radio and community television stations, along with 185 community print projects such as community newspapers, magazines and small commercial print. Out of these projects, 20 are community stations based here in the North West.

According to Ms Nomkhosi Peter, ACEO of the MDDA, the planned events are about more than a studio launches; it is the coming together of like-minded citizens that resonate with the spirit of Mahikeng. We are confident that the new state-of the art studios funded by the MDDA will elevate the quality of broadcasting, especially during the upcoming elections, to reach as many voting citizens to be able to follow the conversations, as part of promoting active citizenry and strengthening democracy.
